چکیده

Probabilistic atlases provide pivotal information for medical image segmentation and registration. Typically an atlas has been built on a common target image space which other training images are mapped onto. This introduces bias towards to the chosen target. Here we present a method to choose a target image which has the least bias considering all training images. Our method chooses a target image that is the closest to the mean geometry of the training images determined by bending energy. Our approach is based on forming a distance matrix based on bending energies of all pair-wise registrations and performing multidimensional scaling (MDS) on the distance matrix.

Least Biased Target Selection in Probabilistic Atlas Construction

Probabilistic atlas has broad applications in medical image segmentation and registration. The most common problem building a probabilistic atlas is picking a target image upon which to map the rest of the training images. Here we present a method to choose a target image that is the closest to the mean geometry of the population under consideration as determined by bending energy. Our approach...

Construction of Abdominal Probabilistic Atlases and Their Value in Segmentation of Normal Organs in Abdominal CT Scans

A good abdominal probabilistic atlas can provide important information to guide segmentation and registration applications in the abdomen. Here we build and test probabilistic atlases using 24 abdominal CT scans with available expert manual segmentations. Atlases are built by picking a target and mapping other training scans onto that target and then summing the results into one probabilistic a...

Evaluating Visual Preferences of Architects and People Toward Housing Facades, Using Multidimensional Scaling Analysis (MDS)

One of the most important issues that have absorbed the public opinion and expert community during the recent years, is the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the housing. There are several challenges related to this topic that includes the contexts of the construction, manufacturing, planning to social aspects, cultural, physical and architectural design. The thing that has a significant ...

Atlas Stratification

The process of constructing an atlas typically involves selecting one individual from a sample on which to base or root the atlas. If the individual selected is far from the population mean, then the resulting atlas is biased towards this individual. This, in turn, can bias any inferences made with the atlas. Unbiased atlas construction addresses this issue by either basing the atlas on the ind...

Generating Synthetic Computed Tomography and Synthetic Magnetic Resonance (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) Images of the Brain Using Atlas-Based Method

Introduction: Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with computed-tomography (CT) is increasingly being used in radiation therapy planning. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculate dose distribution, respectively. Since the use of these two imaging modalities causes registration uncertainty and increases department w...
